Thank you so much

Thank you John, I truly appreciate your insight. John in a previous post you had mentioned that at times , others show up in our life as friends in disguise( How do we know that person isn't there to teach us something really important? The truth is, they are here in our life, irritating the hell out of us, in order to draw out qualities and strengths in us for which it would almost seem we have contracted with them. They are clearly the perfect irritant, the ideal button-pusher for this particular set of tender wounds. If you look at a person in that light, you look beyond the annoyance, above appearances. It may well be that the debt is on their side, and this is how they are "repaying" you, as a way of helping you. Does this apply to this political situation, our leaders and those around them?

Thank you Dimitrios! Wow, what a great question. The karma of great leaders is somewhat different. Yes, we learn greatly by rubbing up against politicians who are in a sense in our lives, who challenge our sensibilities. We must strive, I believe to learn to not take personally the objectionable and sometimes brutally false things they say. In so doing we become able to extract meaning and insight about what’s really going on. It can be a painful process, though. We also have to come up against large and intractable thought bubbles in our own psyches. When we see people crying and yelling in the street after an election, we know they are one with their dogmatic structure of beliefs, and have not been able to separate their self from their feelings.

This is the exact opposite of what we are striving for! But this process of getting the natural level of the soul out of the way is the precursor for seeing what is really going on.

Political leaders, someone like Donald Trump for example, are meant to be the people who most clearly hear the voice of the folk spirit. Just like when there are enough teachers in a school through whom the angel of the school is speaking, there is a flourishing. And when those teachers move on, that spirit cannot incarnate as deeply, and things become more institutional, poor decisions are made, enrollment goes down. Leaders have a karma with an entire folk and with the folk spirit. Our question is, which folk spirit? For there are fallen archetypes, anti folk souls who would love to supplant the true spirit of the nation.

We would do well to discern to whose voice a politician is listening. And this is a deeper seeing than the first kind, where we are growing by not being irritated. Politicians are not perfect, they make mistakes and are abrasive. Our only question of discernment can be, do they hear what the spirit of their folk is saying?

An election is not just between candidates, it is a battle between archangels.

Appreciate remarks on observing people very much! Listening and seeing lifts me up while hoarding my own prejudices is depressing.

Thanks John. I have always liked much of what Steiner offers. Your take including interpretation of his teachings seem right on. I struggle with this in my own family! Meditation is probably most of what keeps me sane.

What makes a true meditant, please?

Excellent question! That could be a whole conversation in itself. For us, it means earnest and regular time devoted to creating a connection with the order of the world. We are as individuals part of a complex universe of higher beings and our evolution is intimately interwoven with their deeds. Not just understanding this, but perceiving and getting it viscerally is what we're after. The true meditant takes it so far they are supporting this process of existence. The power of their prayers and meditations, the nature of their thoughts helps humanity. Steiner gives many meditations, such as the First Class. He also explains how a meditation should be thought, felt then willed internally to give it its full potency.
