Spiritual Purpose of the Genders part 2
Pre-earthly Intentions, Destiny and the Keys to the Ferrari
A colleague recently reminded me that in the vastness of the journey between lives, the plan which is formed for the coming life evolves in a subtle and multi-level way. In the long voyage upward, all our life’s experiences are digested and turned around. Everything the soul went through is processed so a seed can be created for what is to come. Once we reach the heights, the fixed stars, we live in the eternity based world of the highest beings of the universe. There among them the threads of destiny are woven; whom we will cross paths with and what kind of family, opportunities and bodily constitution we will take on.
As we descend, the formation of our life becomes ever more concrete and specific. As we approach the sphere of the Moon, that is when we begin to really form our physical body; hair color, male or female, mental constitution, nerve-sense vs metabolic-limb etc. So, we have to ask if the future manifestations of gender confusion or interventions might have some background in this phase. As we discussed in Speeding up Initiation, there is no limit to what astonishing challenges a soul is willing to take on in service of humanity. Abusive parents, disabling accidents, it’s all on the table. So from that perspective we can go through some pretty horrific things and it can still be part of the divine karmic plan.
We get into murky territory when we ask if a soul might choose to be murdered, maimed and so on as part of their karma, part of their chosen destiny. How people treat each other starts to go over into the realm of freedom, and so the act of taking another person’s life for example is not necessarily in their plan - it is an intervention. If I deprive someone of the chance to use their life-time to work through their karma so to speak, to grow and learn, I’ve done the worst thing imaginable to them. This brings my own destiny into crisis. How can I possibly make up for that?
I could very likely reappear in their next life either as their greatest helper and advocate, or as a disabled family member, in order to give my own life for the sake of helping them create new qualities of love and compassion, qualities the development of which was cut short. These are just two examples, the possibilities are endless. Rest assured however, that what once was a relatively straightforward plan becomes a massive detour. Yes, the forces of destiny are incredibly powerful and in the end all will turn out even better than before, but should we not be cautious when intervening in another’s life? This caution must be paramount.
Such a detour, caused by an intervention, might bring about a significant shift in the course of a life. The greatest, unspeakable tragedies are cases of children who are killed. This often happens in wartime, for example in 1940’s Central Europe when they were purposely sent to extermination camps. In his book Beyond the Ashes, Rabbi Yonassan Gershom seems to encounter people who died in the holocaust. They often felt like they were in the wrong family or had the wrong body. If a child dies at a young enough age, they may still be able to incarnate again somewhere nearby. This window closes sometime around 10-15, depending on how deeply they have incarnated.
A soul which loses its body in this way will almost certainly try for another chance at life, but the options may be limited. They may find a relative, or a family nearby; they will try for the closest thing to what was originally planned in the centuries before birth. In this case, the angels say - here is a life for you, it’s a little different - and you say - I’ll take it. A life on earth is the most precious opportunity for a soul.
So - is it conceivable that even something as basic as living as a man or woman could be switched as the divine world scrambles to make a life and a body available? It’s a legitimate question. And, could this lead to strong feelings of being in the wrong place and body? We can’t rule it out. What I want to emphasize is that whatever the detour, it is still destiny. We are not in this alone, and forces greater than anything else will always ultimately create an even better scenario for us out of any calamity. Do we trust in the fabric of life to ultimately make good out of crisis, or do we intervene externally to try to correct what we see as a mistake? I have seen first hand how interventions always come with a great cost.
It is also a reasonable question to ask to what extent abortions could contribute to this need to be born in a different body than planned. There were 930,000 in the US in 2020 according to the Guttmacher Institute. In the same year, 3,613,000 children were born.
From this perspective, we should look at whether it is an intervention to give our children powerful drugs and even surgery to make them more like the opposite sex, or at least less like their own. What is the message we are conveying to a young person in the throws of figuring out who they are; I’ll support you to become who you were meant to be, or I don’t think who you are is good enough? And then in the midst of what must be a turmoil of soul drama, we have them sterilized and alter their bodies in ways that change their lives forever. Children.
Could this, which is an act by the parents, not a conscious, informed decision by someone who is still a child, be the chosen destiny of that soul? Or will those involved have to heal the damage on a higher level in their future karma?
As I was discussing all this with my friend Lucas, at one point he described the gesture of it all as “you’re saying, here are the keys to cosmic destiny; you can have any body you want”. This a very profound concept. Let us be clear; who holds the keys to cosmic destiny?
Is it the force in this world which tells us that through external manipulation we can improve the body? Who is it that inspires such an idea… Well, giving us the belief that we, with our minds and in our laboratories and operating rooms can do better than God, better than all the hierarchies over aeons of time, that we can make the human being, is central to Ahriman’s playbook. We decide what meaning life is to have, and in so doing we create an intelligence which works without the interference of God.
This hand which reaches out to us with theses keys to cosmic destiny does not mean us well. He has in store for us a world of machine-human hybrids, built in the spirit of living forever, but remaining on the earth. This impulse, if followed to its conclusion, so materializes souls right into their thinking that eventually those human beings won’t be able to reincarnate, but will be stuck in a sub-world.
And what is the alternative? The Spirit of Humankind bears within it the archetype of the human being. The true picture of what it means to be human; it lives as a beacon and a plan in Him, and inside all of us. What is being created is the masterpiece of the aeon, a being of inner freedom and love which strives over long ages toward its true nature. This Spirit is quite literally “the human”.
He is known as the Lord of Karma, and that is because the threads of destiny are in the hands of the source of love itself. The reality is that the possibility of transformation; transformation of all that we do and are, is now ours. So, do we work with the universe-forming powers aligned with what is the future of the human being?
The choice is ours.

So pleased to have found your Stack, John! Your writing is excellent, and your perspective is one I appreciate, having been a part of the Waldorf world for a number of years. (In 2020, I found myself on the outside of the group-think that seemed to swallow Waldorf whole.)
I'm also married to a hypnotist who specializes in healing root causes -- which often means working in past lives or within the "life between lives" of his clients -- so your questions and thoughts have a familiar underpinning, but are also fresh and intriguing. Thanks for your wonderful work!
Thank you for talking openly about this, Hazel.
